Killer Pet Foods

4 of my friends kittens died after he fed them some brand pet food that he didn’t fed them before.
But I am not sure that the food is the cause. It could be a poisoned mouse or a disease.
The kittens died overnight.

According to the website, the FDA

“Requires that all animal foods be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, contain no harmful substances, and be truthfully labeled…There is no requirement that pet foods have pre-market approval by the FDA but the FDA does ensure that the ingredients used in pet food are safe and have an appropriate function in the pet food”
- basically, the FDA has already established that products such as meats, grains and vitamins (common ingredients in pet food) are generally safe and therefore, pet food containing any combination (WNL) of these products do not need to be inspected before going on the market.

The website also says that there has been a significant increase in the importation of pet food from China over the past ten years and a lot of the reported incidences of pet illness due to food (chicken jerky in particular) can be linked to products imported from China. Apparently they have conducted numerous lab tests to find out what is causing illness but as of yet, have been unable to find anything conclusive.

Being in the animal health industry. I have definitely seen some of the worst cases. How products like Friskies, Whiskas and Alley Cat every passed safety testing requirements is beyond me. These companies change their flavours every few months with no significant testing. We see so many cats that suffer from preventable bladder stones, all the companies had to do was provide urine ph readings over a duration of time the pet was on the diet and change their formula accordingly.

Through my research and keen interest in small animal nutrition I have been very satisfied with the work of Medi-Cal Royal Canin. Their safety level is outstanding. Every ingredient gets a thorough scan before even entering the food production process. And if something does happen they stand behind their product and will help you out in anyway possible.
