how to ripen avacados?

Postby Kensho » Oct 2, 2011 6:37 pm

i am relatively new to veganism... i decided to incorporate avocados into my diet... i picked up four this morning but they all seem unripened(kind of hard)... what are some methods to ripen them or is it best to just let them sit out to ripen on their own?

They will ripen themselves but the fastest is to put an avocado together with an apple in a small paper bag, fold to close it and leave for a day or sometimes longer for very hard ones. Apples produce gas that ripens other produce quickly.

I have heard about the apple thing a lot of times now. I have not tried it but it must work it seems. I just leave mine on a window sill in the kitchen and this seems to do well.

If you you have a container of rice, put the avocado in there. This is another method of ripening them.
