It's really useful for websites to have an icon that browsers can use for bookmarks/favorites. I use firefox, for example, and it's easy to set up a bar of little icons representing each frequently visited site, no text necessary. If the site doesn't provide the icon, you just get a meaningless generic page icon which doesn't do the job.
