Re: Canned Vegetarian/ Vegan Tuna??!!?

I, too, would like to know how to make, or, find fish analogues. I adore the taste of seafood and fish, but, of course, haven't eaten any in decades. I didn't know that kellogs had made such an item, btw.

I wonder if trader joes has anything like this.

Re: Is it ethical to keep a pet?

Vets contend that cats are better off indoors. I keep my big girl, ally, inside. :cat: They're safe from disease, fights, unleashed dogs, cars, etc. I don't feel people should own a wild animal. It troubles me when people own snakes, for example. Especially the manner in which they feed them. In the...

Kathy Freston's book, VEGANIST

I've finally read that book, ' 'veganist' by Kathy freston. I'd learned a good deal more than I knew prior, by reading this most informative book. While I've been eating a primarily vegan diet for the last couple of years, the book made me recommit myself to  a vegan diet. I will stop buying icecrea...

Re: 2 Months Vegan And Soo Bloated!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, I laughed at good deal at this post. I have a strong sence of bathroom humor. But being gassy on a vegan diet is the nature of the beast for many people. Or even an omnivore who eats lost of produce, legumes, and whole grains. Um, your diet seems pretty low in calories. There's no need to starve...

Um, many of we Americans DO. as a matter of fact, I often join a peace vigil in my city which meets most Mondays at noon.

Human population explosion

Holy cow, there was a woman on the bus who was telling another woman that she had kids 24 and 26, then had another 23 years later! ( she looked to be in her 30's, herself. A friend told me of a woman in th drs waiting room who had grandkids and she didnt even look 30!!!)She had a grandkid who was 8,...

Re: hello from glasgow!

Indeed, welcome! Btw, do you have a Glaswegian accent? I adore it. While it may be a challenge for my American ears to always understand, I just love to hear it. Very musical. I love the movie, 'trainspotting', and the book it was based on, which was 'written' in a Glaswegian accent.

Tofurkey for the win!!! Great stuff. Very high in protein, too. Lol, I get a kick out of the way it squeaks on my teeth. The roast xomes with a lovely gravy, too.

Re: How & Why Did you become a vegan/vegetarian?

Interesting to read the reply from the person who'd listened to political punk rock and took from that the desire to become vegetarian. I recall the band, Crass, and their consortium of bands, on the Crass label, promoting vegetarian diets. Speaking of Crass, I have the band logo, a stencil of linke...

Re: New To A Vegan Diet And Not A Big Fan Of Raw Veggies

You could eat fruit to get in raw food, and, too, raw nuts, as well as avocado. But cooking veg lightly makes them more tasty, and does release certain vitamins. I microwave broccoli for 2-3 minutes with 1 tsp of water. I steam bok choy for a few minutes, then drink the boil water. Bok choy is a top...

Raw food diet: hallelujah diet

Some one had given me a book on the above eating plan. While I think it's important to eat lots of salads, and fresh fruit, I don't see how eating all raw fare is sustainable. I'd be so hungry not ever having cooked starches, such as whole grains, or root vegetables in my diet. I depend on brown ric...

^ eh? Talk about rhetoric: your response was chock full of the same. All that sloganeering gets old and screams 'lunatic fringe' to boot. Man, you come off as a major whack job. Speaking like that to people will hardly convince them to become vegan. To your point about 'speciesism: yes, it does make...

Re: Vegetarian Arrogance

Anyone can be arrogant. However, there are those vegetarians and vegans that do walk around with an "attitude", and can be quite obnoxious when speaking to those that aren't. Although I'm vegetarian, and make sure a large proportion of my meals are vegan, I have been on the other end of t...

Re: Vegetarian Arrogance

Agreed about the faulty logic. And, whilst eating primarily vegan meals and snax, I'm not a vegan, I agree. It's akin to people thinking vegetarians eat fish and chicken. Ive given up telling folks that a 'real' vegetarian doesn't eat flesh. Alas, I do have a hard time being totally vegan all the ti...

Re: Vegetarian Arrogance

^But the primary reason I eat dairy at others' homes is because I want to be less of a 'pain' to my hosts. And, truth be told, I will eat some dairy on occasion at home, too. Oprah coined a term, 'veganist', to denote a person, who while eating a primarily plant based diet, will consume dairy and eg...

Re: Vegetarian Arrogance

The only vegans I have met that were arrogant were straight-edge, and somewhat young. I don't doubt there are plenty of arrogant vegans, however, because I have met many arrogant omnivores. I doubt the trait is less abundant in herbivores. Agreed. For anyone to pontificate about why an individual s...

Re: Fake fur - your views?

^indeed. I have a vegan friend who wears pre owned leather. By buying it at thrift shops, he isn't buying into the leather/meat industry. Unloved and unwanted Xmas gifts

Anyone receive gifts they didn't care for? I did. But, overall, the gifts I'd gotten were items I'd wanted. I generally ask for food items. Re: Botox

^ eh? I'm greatly saddened by reading about the use of animal testing for Botox. For that reason alone, why use it? Not that one can avoid all vivisection, but glaring ones such as the botox would behoove vegans to forego it. It's terrible when vanity causes animals to suffer, such as mink ranches, ...

Re: How much to eat?

No offense, but I'd be starving on the small amount you'd stated. Why worry about how much food? Eat when you're hungry and eat healthfully, of course. Instead of a white bagel, choose whole grain types or as close to that as possible. As well, the meals you'd mentioned had too little protein. While...

Re: From omnivore to vegan:The dietary education of Bill Cli

Cardiologist dean ornish has preached a very low fat, nearly vegan diet for many years and has done research to show that this diet does reverse plaque buildup. I've read 3 of his books and indeed, own 'the spectrum'. The most Spartan end of the diet is vegan with fruit, veg, legumes and grains. He ...

Re: why people are not vegans?

Indeed, this would be the ideal, but no one can make decisions for others' dietary habits. As for the smell of meat cooking, hell yeah, that smells great! Just because I'm morally opposed to eating it, doesn't make me like the smell of charred flesh any less. Sorry, but I'm not deluded that easily.....

Re: Is it hard for you to be a vegan?

Sometimes. Though most days my diet is vegan... Anyway, it's personal choice in the last analysis. Each to their own. It's not up to anyone to castigate others for not having the willpower to give up dairy, etc. Ideally it'd be great if all of us followed a vegan diet. But for some to pontificate an...

Re: please help sanctuary for hard to home cats

I'm glad to read the above. I feel that it's human irresponsibility which causes feral cat colonies. We have one on my street. A kind woman feeds the ferals and also gets them vetinary care, too.
