Re: Botox

Hi ccvegan, I’ve given your post some careful thought :) First, there is no “everyone else” – just me making these comments. I do not speak for the rest of the community, and I have a biased agenda  Plus, I am under no obligation to be supportive: this is a discussion board, and I am discussin...

Re: Botox

Don't panic, Evut! :) Are you thinking of having botox? Or are you in a community where it is widely used? Healthy living CAN significantly slow the ageing process - Smoking, sun, poor diet and lack of water all damage the skin. Most anti-aging creams have sunscreen as their active ingredient 8) If ...

Re: Which Is Fact And Which Is Fiction?

Hi Evut! I was just about to reply to your 'Hello' post but it doesn't exist any more. So Hello! :) I had a bit of a rant at the botox post ;p CoolBuddy - do you recommend any vegetables in particular? My veg soups always go a bit wrong... 4. American dairy products are controversial in the EU...

Re: Botox

Whatever it is made from, I wouldn't touch the stuff! Who would inject themselves with a poison to paralyse their muscles? It's crazy! And people who have botox look really false and unnatural! Wrinkles and laughter lines look nice :) I understand the need to have some beauty treatments (and believe...

Re: Contraceptive Pills Containing Dairy

There is a vegan contraceptive pill, but I have no idea what it is called - There's some details on the vegan society website here . Bear in mind that many contraceptive pills (and injections, implants, HRT) are made from animal-derived hormones. Personally, I don't like the idea of taking unnecessa...

Re: Population Growth and Environmentalism

Actually, my friends and I have been talking about exactly the same thing. In the 80s we were being told in school that Europe might have to adopt a 'one child per family' policy like China before long. Instead, the governmnet encourages people to have many children because they want a high populati...

Re: Why the veggie burger tastes just as good as a non-veg one

I had heard about the use of dyes in food. Did you know that much of the red meat for sale in the Supermarket has been dyed red?

Re: Why Vegan?

Hi Herschs! I just wanted to add a couple of points to this fascinating thread :) I'm no philosopher, so I hope neither of you mind me butting in  Question one is important because the annuals that we eat [soy, corn, lettuce, etc] require a tremendous amount of energy input to keep sustainable...

Re: New Vegan...NO Period!?!

It is true that a change in diet may make your period lighter or irregular. But it is NOT "super healthy" for your periods to stop. Periods are a natural part of being a woman! From what I have read, your periods stop because your hormones have been affected: you could also stop ovulating ...

I haven't tried eithoer of those. I have 'Mayola' occasionally, but the ingredients list is long and sinister! So normally going on I stick to olive oil, mustard, tomato salsa, guacamole, that kind of thing :)

Re: new to the site. new to this lifestyle aswell.

A fellow cheese-head! Well, you still have a lot of control over what you eat as a vegan - I could give you a recipe for french fries to eat every day, but you wouldn't be a very healthy vegan  I found it took a little while of experimenting with different foods before I felt healthy,...

Re: Hair Loss

No problem Laforet! My mother was telling me just the other day that she had also heard something about vitamin B and hair loss. In any case, Vegans are usually advised to take vitamin B-12 supplements because they tend to be lacking in a vegan diet. You can also get it in yeast extract, soya milk, ...

Re: New Vegan...NO Period!?!

I did not experience this when I became vegan, and I don't know of any other women who experienced this. :o I calculate that you may be underweight. (I'm not used to lbs, so you might want to google for a "BMI calculator" and check yourself). A lot of people lose weight when they become ve...

Re: Hair Loss

Well done for dropping the weight and cholestorol :) A few years ago I read about lack of Iodine being linked to hair loss, although I subsequently wasn't able to find anything out about it  Basically, in the UK most people get their iodine through cows' milk because we don't tend to use iodis...

Re: something almost primal

Wow - I haven't seen "Happy Meat" (yet) :o Although I have noticed a movement towards "humanely raised" products (free range chicken, sustainable fish stocks, etc.). They are often promoted as healthy too. It is so scary what power the media have to feed people these stories :( O...

Andy, would your wife mind sharing her recipe for mushroom and linen seed cake? It sounds like a good snack. I know loads of people who buy seeds but don't know what to do with them  My father insists that bread is "the staff of life" :) if it's good quality bread (and you don't need...

Re: Gladiators were Vegan

The sources I've seen seemed to think that Gladiators were eating a lot of carbs to give them the energy to train every day (the same as modern athletes), and that they wanted to be fat in order to sustain flesh wounds. But I don't know why they were completely vegan. Maybe meat and dairy were too e...

Re: Easy Vegan Christmas Recipes

I hope I've not left it too late, Iris! I usually have a traditional roast dinner for Christmas, with a nut roast instead of the meat. You can easily get gravy powder and stuffing mix that are vegan. And I roast the potatoes in olive oil instead of animal fat. Tomorrow I will be making mushroom parc...

Re: Vegan Clothing

Thanks Vegangirl! Do you know who designed the dress made from recycled bottles? Gladiators were Vegan

Our perception of physical perfection can be summed up by the Roman Gladiator :love10: Did you know that Gladiators were vegan? Archaeologists examining the remains of gladiators in Turkey have concluded that they were vegan, because of the wear to their teeth and the levels of zinc in their bones. ...

Re: Online Weight & Nutrition

I disagree, Irahat. I (and many people like me) was raised to eat a very unhealthy diet and do little exercise - family, teachers and government all contributed to this problem. It is very difficult to change the habits of a lifetime, and your body always seems to fight you! If you cannot believe th...

Re: Vegan gays?

Re: Are you Vegan Sexual

I agree, veggirl21! Well, having sex is different to having a realtionship with someone...
