Bacupari (Garcinia gardneriana)

A round, yellow-orange fruit growing to 2" in diameter. Fruits have white pulp having (like many Garcinia's) a very good, sweet acidic flavor.

Description: An evergreen tree growing to 15-30 feet. Features glossy leaves growing to 6". Flowers are both male and androgynous on same plants. Fruits ripen from October through January in its native range.

Hardiness: Probably not frost hardy.

Growing Environment: Unknown.

Propagation: By seeds.

Uses: Fruits are eaten fresh out of hand. There is some research into possible anti-cancer properties of this plant.

Native Range: Native to the Amazon basin region of Brazil. This species is commonly cultivated in its native range and fruits are sometimes available in local markets.
